There wasn’t much good news on the economy in the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Autumn Statement with lower than expected growth and more tough times ahead. But among the gloom and the depressing figures, there were announcements for a number of measures designed to promote economic growth without adding to our already high levels of public borrowing. Construction in particular is being given an almighty push by this government, with new measures to support homebuilding, road building and the development of new public infrastructure projects. H
