The list is topped by pharmaco Novo Nordisk, Brazils Natura Cosmeticos, Norwegian energy company Statoil, the Danish biotech company Novozymes, and a Dutch company called ASML Holding, a manufacturer of photolithography machines used in the semiconductor industry. Some will surely express surprise at the list — after all, none of these companies is in an industry known for being squeaky-clean. But thats not the real problem.

The real problem lies in Corporate Knights methodology. Like all similar rankings, this one has to choose some criteria. A

The state’s economy will continue to grow at a tepid pace in 2012, mirroring the national recovery, according to an economist at New Mexico State University.

In his economic forecast for New Mexico, Jim Peach said the economy will generate between 8,000 and 12,000 non-farm payroll jobs this year, which is consistent with historic averages.

“Unfortunately, at this rate it will take New Mexico three or four years to have as many jobs as we did when the state entered the recession in 2008,” Peach said. “Even

So you think you can lead a small business? No, this is not a reality TV show – this is reality. Entrepreneurs can get caught up in starting a small business, and as it grows, most are behind the curve when it comes to customer relations and staff management.

Sure, small business leadership takes vision, drive, goal setting, and decisiveness. However, leading people are a different matter. While there is no absolute method of managing a small business, there are some rules you should follow.

The House of Commons Transport Committee believes more proof should be required when whiplash related claims are made. The committee found a 70% increase in motor injury claims over the past six years, while there’s been a 23% drop in road fatalities over the same period.

Louise Ellman, chair of the Committee, said whiplash now accounts for as many as 70% of injury claims. Last year alone there were as many as 554,000 whiplash claims.

‘The threshold for receiving compensation in whiplash cases should be raised and the government should bring forward primary legislation to require objective evidence – both of a whiplash injury and of it having a significant effect on the claimant’s life – before compensation is paid,’ she said.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, supported the findings of the report and said, ‘We must kill the compensation culture that has sharply driven up car insurance premiums. The reco

So, running out of time and ideas for Christmas presents? How about a gift card?

QUT consumer expert Dr Gary Mortimer said once you could only buy gift cards for high-end department stores or jewellery. Now, everything from holidays, music, bridge climbs, petrol and even fast food can be purchased with them.

“This Christmas Australians will spend about $1.5 billion on gift cards and the annual spend is up to $6 billion,” he said.

He said while they’re convenient for the buyer and enable recipients to shop at sales and get more value for money they’re not without their problems and he questions their fairness.

“Gift cards are cash,” he said.

“If you drop one in the car park or it gets lost in the mail, it’s gone for good.

When you decide to venture out on your own and start your very own business, it seems there are dangers awaiting at your every footsteps and risks to be taken at every single stage. In this respect, it’s not all too difficult (or uncommon, for that matter) for a start-up entrepreneur to make a mistake with the strategy and/or expectations of their small business’s performance.
