AUSTIN (KXAN) – A local business is making a big television debut this week. Matt Chasen started U-Ship seven years ago while in college at the University of Texas.

The company lets haulers bid on shipping big items — everything from statues to camels. The CEO called the premise perfect for a reality TV show — which has been named ” Shipping Wars .”

“We’ve known for a long time we have a lot of colorful characters, independent haulers and transport companies that us our site to find business,” said Chasen.

The show premieres Tuesday night on A&E.

As youve probably all heard by now the fruit company Chiquita has joined a boycott of fuel originating in Albertas oilsands. The folks flying the ethical oil banner have responded by suggesting Canadians should boycott Chiquita.

This story of boycott and counter-boycott actually started last year when a group led by Forest Ethics and Corporate Ethics International called for a boycott of Alberta tourism.

Now, this is not just a matter of tit-for-tat; theres more moral significance to it than that. To begin, you dont have to be a big fan of the oil sands to acknowledge that it is with some justice that the ethical oil advocates suggest that what the boycott means, in practice, is that Chiquita is going to be getting its oil from sources at least as ethically-fraught as the oil sands.
