EVANSVILLE — The purchase of Kentucky Data Link (KDL), Inc., and Norlight, Inc., both based in Evansville, and their parent company, Q-Comm Corp., based in Overland Park, Kans., has been completed in a transaction valued at $818 million.

Twenty-four positions are being eliminated in Evansville as a result of the sale.

The buyer, Windstream Corp., an S&P 500 communications and technology company based in Little Rock, Ark., issued approximately 20.6 million common shares, valued at $273 million based on Windstream’s closing share price on Dec. 1 of $13.24. It

Tracking expenses and invoices can make a big difference

According to one small business accounting company, proper bookkeeping is one of the most important elements for entrepreneurs to pay attention to if they want to find success.

In a recent news for small business, Bookkeeping.net said in a release that when tax time comes around, small businesses will find many benefits to keeping up-to-date records of client transactions and expenses. It will also allow the company to see if a client owes money and see how far behind they are on the payment. This can identify patterns of who is having trouble keeping up with payments and make sure that the small business gets the money owed it.

“Current ledgers will account for the funds flowing in and out of the company and allow for key people to make decisions on a daily and quarterly basis,” the company said.

Holiday company Pontin’s has gone into administration.

Administrator KPMG was appointed to Pontin’s today and said the company, which has a site in Camber Sands, had run out of cash because bookings had fallen drastically in the past year.

Pontin’s, famous for its blue coats, employs 850 staff at its five sites across the country.

However it will continue to cater for customers as normal and no redundancies have been made.

KPMG said it was optimistic of finding a buyer and hoped the Pontin’s name would live on.

Joint administrator Jane Moriarty said: “It has unfortunately struggled in the current economic environment but, with some support from new management, we are optimistic that it will be part of thousands of family memories in the years to come.

Small business owners oftentimes do not have a Human Resources manager in charge of employee salaries, raises, job offers, and general maintenance of job classifications and industry average compensations. Alas, when a small business owner takes on all these duties him or herself, there may be a tendency to overpay employees.
