NEW YORK (AP) – The NBA will play a shortened season — if it plays at all — after labor negotiations broke down for the second time in a week.

NBA Commissioner David Stern canceled all November games on Friday, the 120th day of the lockout.

“It’s not practical, possible or prudent to have a full season now,” said Stern, who previously canceled the first two weeks of the season.

Just a day earlier, Stern had said he would consider it a failure if the two sides didn’t reach a deal in the next few days and vowed they would take “one heck of a shot” to get it done.

Owners are insistent on a 50-50 split of revenues, while players last formally proposed they get 52.5 percent, leaving them about $100 million apart annually. Pla

If man were a bird, then certainly the potential he possesses would be the wings. So, obviously, the best and the quickest would be the one with the best wing span. This would have been the most obvious deduction, but it must be remembered that this particular theory is certainly flawed. For the possession of the wing span is just half of the deal, the knowledge and training of flutter and flight are the ultimate necessities for a great flight. Similarly, talent and genius without the adequate guidance and training are just futile and would lead man nowhere. Bringing home the best techniques for training alongside the confidence of self belief is the Phoenix. Bringing into harmony, the various loose ends of talent and potential is the world of Phoenix Training and Development. Read more…

One of the key criticisms lobbed in the direction of corporations is that theyre essentially a mechanism for avoiding personal responsibility.

But this property is hardly unique to corporations. And its certainly not always a bad thing.

The notion that corporations shield individuals from responsibility actual has two components: one about moral and legal culpability for wrongdoing, and another about financial responsibility.

On the financial side, the lack of individual responsibility goes by the legal name of limited liability. Limited liability applies most famously to shareholders, who generally cannot lose more than whatever they have invested in corporate shares. When corporations do well, shareholders may be paid dividends; but no matter what happens, shareholders are never expected to pay the corporations debts.

Elise Sautter may not be a widely recognized name around the New Mexico State University campus, but ask for “Pookie,” and you’ll find your gal.

Pookie Sautter got her unique nickname from her father who, when she was still a baby, would poke her stomach and say, “Pook, pook, pook,” prompting her to giggle. After that, the name Pookie just stuck.

Lucky NMSU. Sautter came to Las Cruces and brought her skills, her husband and her nickname with her.

Sautter earned her bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Florida State University. While at FSU, she met her husband Michael in an oyster bar. Michael, wh

BASTROP, TX (KXAN) – One of the biggest challenges now facing residents of the Bastrop County fires is how to get rid of piles of debris that have been collecting on their property.

Since Saturday, a long line of vehicles with piles of metal in their trailers have been waiting outside of Bastrop Metal Recycling , so they can get rid of the leftover metal and turn some of it into cash.

“Honestly, just trying to get it off. It’s the safest place to bring it, and getting a little bit back from it is kind of nice,” said Morgan Shurtleff. “Pretty much metal is the only thing left.

Is it just me, or has PETA jumped the shark? The always-provocative animal-rights organization is at it again, this time announcing that its planning on starting its own porn site to draw attention to the plight of animals. And once again its alienating groups that it ought to consider allies.

See this version of the story, by Madeleine White, for the Globe and Mail: PETA to launch porn website: Is this still about animal rights?

The animal rights group, known for its naturalist ways, has registered the domain name peta.xxx and plans to launch a pornography website in December that “draws attention to the plight of animals.”

Not surprisingly, many feminists (in the broadest sense of the term) have objected. The Read more…
